DailyUI 025 – TV App

Doing this one, I felt quite uninspired from start to finish. I did however set out not to use illustrations here as I didn’t quite see where that would fit. I was thinking of doing a hero image with a TV illustration at the top, but thinking about it I felt that it would take too much space from the content in question and the content is essentially the most important part of an app like this.

So I decided to go with something more simple. Instead of an illustration, there’s more icons here. Hamburger menu for category filtering as well as any other options you would have, like account and app settings. Film strip for movies and a TV for TV shows and what have you. Then of course the magnifying glass for search to the far right. The only other icon is the play trailer icon I kind of slapped on at the last second. I felt like having quick access to seeing a trailer reduces unnecessary clicks by the user and make the experience a bit more seamless.

I only have two sections here though. At the very top we have a hero image with a featured show. I wanted it to stand out as much as possible, thus no visible action bar or separation from text and icons. Below that we have a recommended section which would usually be near the top. There was no real rhyme or reason behind the shows I put there, mostly things I enjoy myself. The initial idea wasn’t to have the images extend outside of the boundaries like that, but as I put an image there to hide half of it I thought it looked quite neat. Obviously in reality it wouldn’t extend beyond like that, but for the sake of visuals here I left it.

That’s kind of where I stopped. As I said it was quite uninspired, but the end result was alright. Iconography could definitely be improved though.
