DailyUI 027 – Dropdown
To start off, this one felt really rushed. I arrived late at home at around half past 11 and I really wanted to get this done before going to sleep the same night. Tired, exhausted and feeling rushed I whipped this up in record time. The actual idea for this however had already hit me on the bus ride home. Boring old dropdown menus weren’t interesting to me, and I was almost discouraged from actually doing this one because I had a difficult time seeing how I could make it different without any animations, since I would definitely not have time to make them. So the idea of a kid having its tongue out, sort of like it’s “dropping down”.
So from the start I had a clear image in my head of what this would look like, so the execution was simple. Colourful and playful were the words of the day, in contrast to last night’s greyscale. If I had more time I would make more dynamic shapes, especially for the hair. But it fit well as it is.
The general idea here is that the nose would be the touchpoint. At first it would be pointing down, and when pressed it would point up as we see in the picture and the tongue would pop out with the menu. To fit with the theme I imagine bouncy animations and a playful style.
Keeping on with the childlike theme, the menu options are all sweets. Presumably something this child has consumed. As for shading, I like the two-toned style and I find this and the grainy style two approaches I want to explore further. Going forward however, given time constraints, I will try more standard ways of shading thing.
Maybe next time we’ll even see a return of the monkey. Again.
