DailyUI 021 – Home Monitoring System
Today marks the day I switch over to Illustrator. Which also brings something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now… Illustrations! Always something I’ve been meaning to get better at, especially since I love it when there are beautiful illustrations in apps to cover up some white space. So here’s the first one, the home monitoring system.
As it’s for a home, I wanted there to be a house and a brightly lit day, bringing about a good mood. In reality, this could also reflect the weather outside, showing the house in rain, snow or whatever else is going on outside your window. As always, inspired by Google I made this simple illustration in their vein. In the future I want to try to create something akin to what you see in Google Calendar.
Function-wise we have temperature, energy use, wifi health and lights. I figured these are the four you want to keep tabs on the most. The temperature shows the current indoor temperature and humidity, allowing for raising and lowering it as you want. I was a bit unsure about the energy one since I’m not very knowledgeable on these things, but I figured it would be how much is used over the day. Here I could have added a graph, showing the differences.
Then of course there is wifi health, showing upkeep. I could have put a button to reset or shut down the wifi though. And lastly we have the lights for different rooms as you set them up. Quick button to turn all of them off or individually. I’m really ashamed here, as for some reason the box moved to the left before I saved and I didn’t manage to catch it before upload… So now it’s not aligned properly. But them’s the breaks.
As always, icons are made from scratch. Temperature icon, lightning bolt, wifi and lightbulb. All very simple but hopefully make sense in their contexts. Font is again DIN Condensed Bold. I’m really liking this font for many different usages.
The switch to Illustrator wasn’t as easy as I had hoped, but it also wasn’t as difficult as I feared. For at least the coming 20 challenges I’ll be using it exclusively.
