DailyUI 018 – Analytics Chart
Data and analytics are some of the most boring things I know, but here we are having to work with it anyway. It’s incredibly useful, but very dull to look at. So the challenge here is how to make it interesting.
Since I’m not a big data buff, I don’t really know a lot about it, but I’ve dabbled with it enough to have an overview. But I’m not very good at coming up with statistics from scratch, so I went into Google Analytics and snagged some numbers from a website I’ve been working on for this purpose.
This one I started off with doing the icons on the side, showcasing 3 different ways of displaying data; pie charts, bar graphs and line graphs. As always, fully made from scratch. Here I’ve chosen to highlight the line graph, shamefully because it was the easiest.
Next was picking what graphs to show. I picked two data points that would percentages, in this case bounce rate and new sessions. I felt that these two points also are fairly related, how many new visitors contra how many stay longer. But showing the total sessions is also pivotal I think, in order to know what all the percentages relate to.
After that there’s basic things such as sorting by day, month or year. I chose daily for a more granular view. Here I completely forgot to add the days on the bottom of the graph, even though I added the info pop-up showing the exact day for the two selected points.
The colour scheme was picked mostly because it was easy on the eyes, in order to make the idea of viewing all these numbers and data a bit more pleasant. The green was picked to contrast with the overall blue theme, and to make the second data point stand out more.
Font used was Roboto Condensed Bold throughout.
I think that’s it for now. Peace.
